Idaho Pasture Pigs are a heritage breed of pig specifically bred for grazing on pasture and not rooting up the land. They are also bred for their kind and gentle nature, good mothering skills, and calm demeanor. Their meat quality is different from the commercial pork in the grocery store, as they aren't fed a constant supply of grains. Since we allow our pigs to live and eat as they are intended, in the pasture and in the woods on our farm, they have a richer more flavorful meat marbled with healthy fats. We do supplement a mix of different grains along with the required minerals that aren't found in abundance in the soil. They were initially bred as a mix of the Kune Kune, Duroc, and Berkshire pig. They reach a butchering weight at approximately 10 months old, and will generally average around 200-220 pounds live weight weight. Mature boars will reach 400-450 pounds and the gilts/sows 300-350. Boars reach sexual maturity at about 6 months of age, and gilts can have their first pregnancy at around 10 months, howevere it is best for the gilt to wait unitl a year old to allow a pregnancy.
Our breeding stock is registered with the Idaho Pasture Pig Registery, as are all of the breeding piglets we sell. We take care of that paperwork for you at no extra charge. Pigs purchased for breeding and being transported out of Indiana will require a CVI (Certfiied Veterinarian Inspection). We transport the piglet to and from the vet also providing the necessary paperwork for $50 (unless circumstances require further testing due to your states regulations.). Due to all the hard work involved we do require a non-refundable $200 dollar deposit on all breeding piglets reserved, and most of the time will be weaned and ready for pickup at 8 weeks old.
Half hog deposits are $200 and whole hog deposits are $200. After that when the slaughter date is scheduled we will transport the pig to the local Amish slaughterhouse that we use. They will humanely take care of the rest. You will pay the remaining balance of the live weight minus your deposit, You pay the processor directly for custom options. Example, you can choose how much sausage (5 different flavors), bratwurst., bacon, different cuts of meat you want, and whether cured or smoked.
