So you've researched Idaho Pasture Pigs and decided you want to own some of this glorious breed of pig. We have information on them here as well if you're just now reading about them. Here is our process for selling a breeder pig. They are born, soon after tagged with USDA-approved 840 premise ID and individual animal numbers. We tag females on their right ear and males on the left. This makes it easier for us to identify the piglets quickly in a group.
The start of the purchase process involves going to our store and purchasing a deposit on the sex of pig that you would like. We do our best to keep the quantities in the store accurate to what we have on the farm, but there could always be the in-person off website purchase that happened before we updated. Rare, but if so you'll be quickly notified. We will be doing our best to have 4 litters per year right now, with plans for 8 litters next year.
Once the deposit is placed we know you want our piglet and will contact you with the contract and give you individual pictures of the available piglets in the sex purchased. This allows you to pick your specific animal. If you want individual pictures of piglets available before the deposit is placed, certainly let us know.
We will then raise your pig until it is fully weaned, usually no later than 8 weeks, and they will be ready for pickup. We will complete all required registration paperwork through the IPPR at no charge. If you live out of state there is an additional charge of $50 for a CVI (Certified Veterinarian Inspection). We will transport the piglet to and from the vet and obtain all necessary paperwork for you, and it is valid for 30 days. Indiana requires this. You'll know in advance when the 8-week mark is and will be able to have already scheduled pickup date for your piglet. The balance of the purchase price is due at pickup, or the days before. You'll receive your IPP registration for your piglet directly from the IPPR in under 6 weeks. If you do not, please let us know.
We do our very best to select only the best breeding quality piglets for sale as breeders. We take great care of our animals, and they are healthy. But as with any living thing (including you and I), we don't know when our last day on this earth is. If we even think your piglet isn't healthy we won't sell it to you. Your loss isn't worth our profit. That's not how we would treat family, so that goes for our customers also. But, there is always the possibility of unforeseen medical circumstances, so as likely understood we can't guarantee the lifespan or health of the pig while it is in our care, so we certainly can't do so after it leaves our care. That's our mini-disclaimer.
After that, it's your piglet. Please enjoy them as we do. And let us know if you have any questions. We welcome visits to our farm before purchase if desired, or even after.
